HARRISBURG -- Mike Jenkins of Dauphin County has made the finals at the 2013 World's Strongest Man (WSM) competition in China, but it wasn't easy.
Jenkins passed out after one repetition in the squat event during qualifying, according to his sponsor, Maximum Human Performance (MHP).
He finished first and second in his last two qualifying events in his division, however; securing a spot in the WSM finals for the third time in his career.
The WSM finals are August 23-24.
MHP says Jenkins lost 20 pounds days before the event after coming down with a terrible gastrointestinal infection, which required antibiotics and intravenous fluids. Medical personnel treated Jenkins at the scene.
CBS Sports Network will air ten 30-minute episodes from the 2013 competition, culminating with a one-hour finale crowning the 2013 World's Strongest Man. Programming begins on Wednesday, October 16 (7:00 PM, ET) and airs weekly through the finale on Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25 (9:00 PM, ET), according to CBS.
Jenkins hasn't competed in a strongman competition since undergoing knee surgery earlier this year.
Joining Jenkins in the finals are Hafpor Bjrnson (Icelend); Robert Oberst (United States); Vytautas Lalas (Lithuania); Johannes rsj (Sweden); Brian Shaw (United States); Terry Hollands (England); ydrnas Savickas (Lithuania); Mike Burke (United States); and Misha Koklyaev (Russia).
Jenkins is now co-owner of CrossFit Gamma in Hershey.
