Man arrested for shooting AR-15 in West Hempfield Twp.

A man is facing charges after allegedly firing an AR-15 near a housing development.

Officers with the West Hempfield Township Police Department say Steven Neal was charged with one count of recklessly endangering after an incident on October 16th.

Police say Neal pulled his vehicle to the side of the road along Route 30 Westbound, east of the prospect Road overpass, when it had become disabled.

Police say Neal then exited his car and fired six shots from an AR-15 .223 cal assault rifle. The shots were reportedly fired into the dirt embankment on the side of the road, in the direction of the Summit Hills housing development.

Police recovered six spent shell casings in the area of Neal's vehicle on the side of Route 30, approximately 100 yards from the housing development.

Police were initially dispatched to the Summit Hills development for a report of shots fire, but nothing was found in the development. Officers were notified a short time later by the East Lampeter Township Police Department, to check along Route 30, as they had Neal in custody as the result of an incident which had just taken place in their jurisdiction.

All Weapons involved were confiscated as was Neal's vehicle.  No one was hurt during any of the incidents.
