Woman held for court in child abuse case

Written by: Rachel Snody (RSnody@local21news.com)

A Dauphin County woman is headed to trial on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.

Mackenzie Gordy is accused of severely injuring her 15-month-old baby. On September 20th, the baby's father noticed that his son had a bruised eye and abrasions to the right side of his head. Police say he became concerned because the baby also had a high fever, was listless, and pale.

Officials say Gordy and the baby's father are separated but share custody of the child. Police say Gordy dropped off the baby at his father's home after he was in her custody for 4 days.

The baby was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital before being transferred to Hershey Medical Center for emergency surgery to repair a tear in the baby's bowel.
