Some United Water customers in the Mechanicsburg area are under a boil water advisory, following a water main break early Tuesday morning.

Affected customers were notified by Rapid Dialer Phone System and Door posting, United Water said in a statement on their website.  The affected customers are located north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, West of York Street, East of Sinclair Road and South of Green Acres Street.  As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

Do not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using; or use bottled water.  You should used boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.

United Water is working closely with the PA Department of Environmental Protection to test the water to make sure it meets drinking water standards. The advisory is expected to be in effect for at least two days.
