Alan Kennedy- Shaffer fired from LCB
Reported by: Chris Papst
CBS 21 was the first to report that Alan Kennedy-Shaffer, who is running for chair of the Dauphin County Democratic Party, was fired from his job at the LCB recently, but quickly hired again by House Democrats.
Kennedy-Shaffer, well-known for his work with Harrisburg Hope, was fired as a staff attorney at the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board - a position he held since September 2011. The board voted to fire him in May.
However, he was quickly hired by the Democratic State House Committee as a researcher.
Kennedy-Shaffer told CBS 21, "I was unlawfully terminated in retaliation for my military, community and political activity. Fundamentally, this is military and political discrimination." Kennedy-Shaffer also said he plans on taking legal action regarding his termination.
The election for Dauphin County Democratic Party chair will be held on Wednesday, June 11.
The PLCB released this statement. The PLCB has a number of employees who serve in the military and we support and respect their service. There are also many employees of the PCLB who serve in community groups and are politically active under the terms of the Commonwealths Management Directives. That being said, we will not discuss Mr. Shaffers claim as we cannot discuss specific personnel issues at all. However, we will vigorously defend our decision should a lawsuit be filed.
